IMF / IGNORNENT MUSIC FRIDAY: Migos “Pack Gone Missing”

migos

For all of the “real” Hip Hop I listen to, I have a pretty good track record of being up on artists that Hip Hop fundamentalist eventually come to abhor, before the oft slandered mainstream gets a hold of them.

The Migos are no different in that sense, since my renown (Within my Framily of course) Gucci Mane fandom introduced me to the Migos via one of the most ignorant songs in recent memory.

Unlike other recent southern artist that cause Dr. King to cry in his casket, I pretty much quit checking for the youthful triad (Who of course have one member locked up), after I ran through their Gucci related songs.

Maybe I delegated their music the purview of the kids ( I am an old man) or maybe I just found them to not to be up to par regarding my taste. For whatever reason, I just didn’t check for the kids who’ve brought the most most innovative style to Hip Hop since Das Efx did so over twenty years ago.

That was until this morning.

While pursuing DatPiff’s newly redesigned mobile app, I happened to come across the “Migos & Rich The Kid” mixtape Now normally I wouldn’t give two f**ks, about such an audio collage, but I stumbled upon it after already listening to the DJ Holliday helmed Young Thug/ Gucci Mane mixtape (another story for another day), so you can say I was already primed for ignorance.

And boy did I ever get ignorance.

After going through standard modern trap fair, I came across what I like to call and excellent example of “Neo Trap Music” called “Pack Gone Missing”, which of course is about missing, presumably stolen, drugs and is assisted by Wiz Khalifa and Chevy Woods.

What’s so great about this song?

You mean besides the fact it had me at the repeated “Whodini me” layered within the songs hook?

Well

There’s the the puzzling array of classic NBA metaphors utilized by the Migos that leads one to believe that they did nothing but watch NBA TV while trapping out the bandos.

And

Hey, I’m not going to lie, like most songs that contend for IMF (Ignorant Music Friday) it just sounds good.

No I wouldn’t be able to solve the puzzle of which Migo was which if a million dollars was on the line, but who cares about such things, just enjoy this song before you drink yourself into a stupor tonight.
